Okay, once again, let's say you were going to use Critic-O-Meter as your guide and only see shows that rank at least an A-. How's our Wisdom of Crowds experiment doing?
Well, you'd end up seeing the following shows:
Broadway: South Pacific, Avenue Q
Off-Broadway: Ruined, Forbidden Broadway Goes to Rehab, Krapp 39, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Altar Boyz and Sleepwalk with Me
That seems pretty solid, although the fact that you'd miss Pulitzer-and-everything-else Award Winner August: Osage County but catch Altar Boyz seems a wee bit off to me. You'd still get to see an experimental piece, a McDonnaugh play, the new Lynn Nottage, Sleepwalk with Me (which is amazing) and two good ole fashioned Broadway Musicals, one pleasantly subversive and NSFW the other more mainstream
So our verdict thus far? The Collective Taste of NYC theatre critics is... pretty good.
